homestuck challenge day 4

Day 4: Your favorite page(s)

Short explanation: EMOTIONS ARE COOL AND I LIKE THEM

Long explanation: I didn’t even KNOW much about Homestuck before June, which is when I started reading it. I powered through the whole thing in less than a week (foregoing having an actual life), and so I got this whole Gamzee arc in one fell swoop!

They were my favorite pages not because Gamzee’s descent into madness was necessarily the most artful representation of such a thing, but because Karkat was scared shitless.

Before that, the whole thing was really fun to me, and light-hearted! It’s written so that all of the potential tragedy was passed over with hyperbolic lightheartedness, or just averted totally by Weird Plot Shit.

But here, there was, like, actual god damn terror. I guess I liked how completely Karkat shifted from his normal batshit raging self and into just pleading and fear. And as a result I was just going OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT the whole time too.

So this was a fun challenge in drawing scared shitless hahaha I think my style worked out a little better with this one? BUT MAN I suck at lighting from an actual definitive source I did the best I could sob
